2008 Summer Champs
This was an interesting meet and great to see so many swimmers from outside the region attending. It certainly raised the bar for the meet.
Kiwi had 44 Swimmers at this meet double the amount we had attending last year and more than the rest of the Manawatu combined. There were some outstanding swims and some not so outstanding. One of the things that Andrew commented on was the lack of preparation amongst swimmers before a race. If you know that your event is coming up swimmers need to start stretching and warming up muscles. It is hard to perform at your best if your body isn't ready.
Many of our swimmers had just come back from a tough swimming camp in Hawera with only a couple of days rest and it was a hard task to front up at the the Summer Champs. On the surface their results were not what they may have expected but a closer analysis shows that all of the swimmers that went on camp achieved at least 1 pb with 90% gaining 4 or more pb's and many of the swimmers also gaining multiple pbs in excess of 4 sec's.
