The Show Down!

Kiwi West down by 7pts at the beginning of the Age Groups prepared a full on defense with a squad of 50 swimmers entered & primed for combat.

With the veterans leading the way for the warm-up the rookies soon followed. It wasn’t a pretty sight, many of them were circling the pool trying to figure out how to get in until our brave coach, fought through the chaos & managed to point them in the direction of the water.

The atmosphere was different this year with clubs from all round the region sensing that for the first time in 20yrs Kiwi West were vulnerable. Dun dun daaaaaaaa! The swimmers stepped up to the blocks. A hush descended over the blood thirsty crowd. The whistle sounds and its 2 days of full-on battle. those who were unlucky enough to draw lane 4 (The Bermuda Rectangle) were never seen again.

Ice Breakers mounted a huge attack taking the relay cup from us in the last session some thinking this is the end, but Kiwi stood firm. Then devastating news from the rear, the food shop had closed… it was chaos. There were tears, heartbreak and losses on all sides... then as suddenly as it began, it was all over, nothing left but to retrieve the wounded and bury the survivors....

All kidding aside it was a fantastic weekend with Kiwi West gaining a great result and over 100 medals. 44 out of 50 swimmers gained a personal best and Kiwi West achieving 253 top 5 places for the meet. A notable achievement was Pipajo Michael beating her own Manawatu LC (12yr) 200 breast stroke title of 2:53.14 with a time of 2:49.47.

Last but not least Kiwi West Aquatics retains its title as Premier Club for 21years in a row with 653 points with Ice Breakers close behind on 593 points. We would like to thank all the clubs for a fantastic meet & Ice Breakers WELL BE BACK FOR OUR RELAY CUP!
