Kiwi West Aquatics - Whats Been Happening

The year of 007

A new year and we are well into the swing of things. Hopefully some of you managed to get in a bit of a break over Xmas. 2006 turned out to be a year of change for Kiwi West with the departure of many of our senior swimmers, a few new faces on the committee and for the squads a whole lot of training (I guess some things never change). 2007 will be an exciting year with

  • A Junior Swim camp planned for June.
  • A trip to Hawaii to compete at the Keo Nakama Invitational for the seniors
  • Another year of exciting swimming
007 Snr Swim Camp
We made it: Camp 007 was a great adventure staying at the Forest Lakes homestead with mudslides ( Go Jan Harris) water slides (Go Coach Sarah) and toilet cleaning! (Go Nadine!!).

Training at the Otaki pool took an unexpected turn with an 11pm to 1am session to finish the camp. Great meals at the Otaki RSA (Go Team!) and great drivers and helpers.

Thanks to Mike Van Den Brink, Fiona Elkington, Jan Harris (the queen of morning tea) and Coach Sarah for helping our team get better!. Andrew

This is the time of year when our swimmers get to show off their awesome skills at the School Sports! I have heard many tales of triumph so far and look forward to hearing many more. (Final of 100 freestyle at St Peters was cancelled because Jessica Love would win by too much!!) As our swimmers go through their national meets (NZ Juniors National Age groups, NZ Div 2 and NZ Youth and Open champs I wish them all the best.

Our technical focus over the next term or so will turn to freestyle and backstroke and specifically the timing of the kick, hip rotation and shoulder rotation.

Congratulations:
To all the Kiwi West swimmers who had qualified for Nationals as of January 28th 2007.
