Kiwi West Swimmers In Other Sports
Canoe Polo has been reborn at St Peter’s. After a number of years with no representation from the college at the sport, 2007 has seen the formation and development of a Junior (Year 7 & 8) School Canoe Polo team.
It is a fast, exciting and fun sport, players learn to manoeuvre on the water, drive onto the loose ball, and recover from capsizing. Equally important is being able to pass quickly and accurately, shoot and defend.
Last Thursday night, Freyberg Community Pool was the host for the Palmerston North Ross Intermediate Canoe Polo League Finals. The St Peter’s Icebergs team of Cameron Blair, Maddy Duggan, Ben Elkington, Jade Hancock and Jessica Love were ranked second behind the "Ross Intermediate Sharks" on the League table.
After an exciting semifinal against the 3rd ranked Team, the St Peters Icebergs (We may need to speak to St Peters about the team name) pulled away with a win and head in to the Finals against the League favourites - the Ross Intermediate Sharks.
The Ross Sharks with a display of great skill scored the first point but the St Peters Icebergs hit right back with a goal of their own both teams displayed fantastic handling skills but St Peters took the lead and went on to win the competition.
The team wishes to acknowledge the enthusiasm and support of their Year 10 coach Anna Hocquard (insert) and also Luke Garland (Luke played for Ross Intermediate but was always willing to play for St Peters when they were short a player).
